How to Size a Replica Streetwear Tee Before You Order: Chest, Shoulder and Body Length Compared Against a Tee You Already Own

Replica tee sizing fails on labels, not on measurements. We compare flat chest, shoulder and body length against a tee you already own — plus why loose cuts and one wash move the numbers.

The fastest way to waste money on a replica tee is to order your usual letter size. On our bench, the same "L" has measured between 51 cm and 56 cm pit-to-pit depending on the batch — the difference between a fitted tee and one you can layer over a hoodie. Labels are not measurements. The Nike graphic short-sleeve tee in our product catalog ships in L through 5XL with a stated 1–3 cm tolerance on the listed dimensions, and 3 cm is wider than the shoulder step between two of those sizes.

So we stopped trusting letters. Before any tee reaches the bench, we compare it against a tee we already own, using four numbers and one hard filter.

Measure the tee you already own, not your body

Seller charts list garment measurements taken flat, so your baseline has to be flat too. Take the tee that fits you best, lay it front-up on a table and smooth the fabric by hand. Do not pull. Measure to the nearest 0.5 cm and repeat each reading; if two readings differ by more than 0.5 cm, you were stretching the knit.

NumberHow to take it on your own teeTypical grade per size
Chest, flatPit to pit, 2.5 cm below the armhole, seam to seam, then doubled for circumference+4 cm
ShoulderShoulder seam to shoulder seam, straight across the back+1 to 2 cm
Body lengthHighest point of the shoulder, next to the collar, straight down to the hem+2 cm
Hem widthSide seam to side seam along the bottom edge, laid flat+2 to 3 cm
Sleeve openingEdge to edge across the sleeve cuff+0.5 to 1 cm

Those steps come from the China-market tee charts we see most often in replica listings, and they are smaller than Western retail grading. Rothco's US athletic-fit chart, by comparison, steps up roughly 3.2 cm at the shoulder and about 2.5 cm in length per size. A replica "XL" is often a Western "M" in the shoulder and a Western "L" in the chest — which is exactly why the letter misleads.

Order by chest, then shoulder, then length

If two numbers point at different sizes, chest wins. Nike's own men's tops guide gives the same instruction: when chest and waist suggest different sizes, take the chest measurement. If your best tee measures 54 cm flat and the chart lists 51 cm for L and 55 cm for XL, order the XL and accept a slightly low shoulder seam. A wide shoulder over a tight chest is the most common failure we see — armhole pull, twisted side seams, and a hem that rides up whenever you raise your arms.

Body length is the number buyers ignore and then complain about. A 68 cm body and a 74 cm body are different garments on a 180 cm frame: one sits at the belt line, the other covers it. Decide whether you want tucked, standard or layered, write down the centimetre figure from your best tee, and treat anything more than 2 cm off it as a no.

Where a loose cut breaks the arithmetic

The Nike graphic tee is cut loose, and loose cuts behave differently. When the shoulder seam sits off the shoulder, the measured shoulder width grows without the tee fitting any wider around the body, so a dropped-shoulder listing can read 52 cm and still flatter someone whose own shoulder is 46 cm. Judge chest and length on those pieces and treat the shoulder column as styling, not fit.

The reverse happens with boxy cropped tees. A 62 cm body length is not a misprint, it is the silhouette, and sizing up to fix a "short" tee only gives you a wider one that still stops above the waist. Check the photo against the numbers before blaming the chart.

Reading a chart written in centimetres

  • Xiongwei / chest: usually the full circumference. Halve it before comparing to your flat number — a listed 104 cm chest is a 52 cm flat width.
  • Bancixiongwei / half chest: pit-to-pit. This is the column you want.
  • Yichang / body length: normally from the high point of the shoulder; if the seller measures from the centre-back neck, subtract roughly 2 cm mentally.
  • Jiankuan / shoulder: seam to seam across the back.
  • Xiuchang / sleeve: shoulder seam to cuff edge, measured along the fold.

Never compare a circumference to a flat width. Mixing a 104 cm chest with a 54 cm flat measurement lands you two sizes small, and it is behind a large share of "runs small" complaints.

What one wash removes

Cotton jersey relaxes with water and heat, and length goes first. Typical cotton-knit figures run 3–5% in length and 1–2% in width, while an all-cotton laundry test recorded 6.12% loss at chest width and 7.21% at front length. A 72 cm body can finish near 67 cm. That is visible, which is why every tee we test is re-measured after one cold wash and an air dry, with the difference logged.

Practical rule: on a print blank with no compacting note, add 1–2 cm of length and 1 cm of chest to your target when ordering. If you want the oversized look to survive month one, buy the length, not the letter.

Match the flat chest, then the length, then the shoulder. A tee that fits two of three is usually wearable; a tee that fits none of them is a return.

The 30-second order check

  1. Lay your best-fitting tee flat and record chest, shoulder, body length and hem width in centimetres.
  2. Halve any circumference in the seller's chart.
  3. Subtract the stated tolerance from the smallest size you are considering and confirm it still clears your chest.
  4. Check the length figure sits within 2 cm of your target, then ask the agent to photograph the flat measurements with a tape in frame before the parcel ships.

It takes a few minutes and one tape measure. On a tee that costs less than a coffee, that is the difference between a garment you wear weekly and one that stays in the drawer.

How we tested

We ordered the Nike graphic tee on 4 August 2026, warehouse photos arrived 7 August, and the parcel reached the Rotterdam bench on 21 August. Each tee was weighed, then measured flat at chest, shoulder seam, high-point-shoulder to hem and hem width to the nearest 0.5 cm, and re-measured after one cold wash and air dry.

Should I size up in replica streetwear tees?

Only if the numbers say so. Measure your best-fitting tee flat across the chest, then check whether your target size clears that width after subtracting the listing's tolerance. Asian-market tees often run one to two sizes below Western labels, but a letter is never a shortcut.

The chart gives chest circumference, not pit-to-pit. What now?

Halve it. A 104 cm chest circumference equals 52 cm flat, measured edge to edge. Compare that halved figure to your own tee's flat width. Never compare a circumference against a flat measurement — that single error drives most runaway 'runs small' complaints.

How much will a replica cotton tee shrink after washing?

Expect 3–5% in length and 1–2% in width for cotton jersey; uncompacted fabric can lose more, and one all-cotton wash test recorded 7.21% at front length. Re-measure after a cold wash and air dry before deciding the length still suits you.

thanks for the detailed guide. i'm new to replica tees and was about to order a large but after measuring my old h&m tee i went with medium. still a bit confused about shoulder vs chest tho. maybe next time i'll size up for loose fit. helpful overall.

this is exactly what i needed. i always mess up sizing on reps. measured my favorite carhartt tee and compared to the chart here and got a medium that fits perfect. the bit about one wash shrinking is real, my last one shrank like half inch in length. good stuff.
