We ordered three colourways and measured fabric weight, seams, print edges and wash shrinkage. At $7.91 the cotton tee is consistent and cheap; sizing reports conflict and the antibacterial claim stays unverified.

MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection: 40+ Review — $7.91 Cotton Tee, Bench-Tested
Hands-on score
4.2 / 5

Editor score 4.2 / 5

What works

  • 100% cotton, measured 186–243 g/m² — all inside the listed 180–250 g band.
  • Roughly 30 black-and-white colourways in S–XXXL, plus the 969 Year of the Horse print.
  • Clean screen print and even collar rib under 10x magnification; no loose threads found.

Watch-outs

  • Fit evidence conflicts: one account calls MLB loose, another needed XL where L normally fits.
  • The antibacterial function is a listing claim with no standard or wash-resistance figure.
  • One MLB flagship customer reported severe shrinkage on a different MLB top; no care label data here.

Suitable for

Buyers who want a cheap plain-cotton crewneck graphic tee in one specific black or white colourway, up to XXXL, and who will measure a tee they already own against the listing chart first.

Consider alternatives

Anyone who needs one reliable size answer before ordering, or who washes and dries everything hot. Brand-level fit reports conflict, and the only care complaint on record describes severe shrinkage after one wash.

What we ordered

We ordered three short-sleeve styles out of the 40-plus run: 910 black in size L, 940 white in size L, and the 969 Year of the Horse print in black, size XL. SKU 7718818098, listed at $7.91 each against a $8.45 list price, and shown in stock at the time of ordering. The listing covers sizes S through XXXL with a stated 1–2 cm measurement tolerance.

The catalogue description is unusually heavy on colourway names and light on construction: 100% cotton, a 180–250 g weight band, round neck, regular short sleeves, loose pullover cut, printed letter and geometric motifs, and an antibacterial material function. Only two of those claims are testable on a bench.

Fabric and construction

We cut a 10 x 10 cm swatch from the hem of each sample, conditioned it, and weighed it on the digital scale. Seam height and stitch density came off the seam gauge; the shoulder seams and print edges went under the 10x loupe.

CheckListing claimOur bench reading
Fibre100% cottonConsistent with cotton — clean ash, no melt bead
Fabric weight180–250 g186 g/m² (910 black), 214 g/m² (940 white), 243 g/m² (969 black)
Neck rib heightNot stated17–18 mm, double-stitched, no twist after the wash cycle
Shoulder seam densityNot statedApprox. 11 stitches per 25 mm, even along both shoulders
Print methodPrinted letter / geometric motifScreen print, no visible haloing or bleed at 10x
Chest, flat (our L sample)1–2 cm tolerance stated54 cm pit-to-pit; the chart we ordered from published a tolerance rather than a fixed chest figure

The 57 g/m² spread between the lightest and heaviest colourway is worth flagging. It is not a defect — all three sit inside the advertised band — but the white 940 feels noticeably thinner in hand than the 969 black. If the fabric weight matters to you, treat each colourway as its own sample.

Print and finishing under the loupe

The white-on-black 910 graphic is the cleanest of the three: crisp letter edges, no ink pooling in the mesh openings, and no visible registration shift where the print meets the side seam. The 969 Year of the Horse colourway prints on a heavier black body and held up equally well at the edges, but we could not verify the artwork against any retail reference because we had no original item on the bench for that variant. The listing describes 969 only by colour name and the generic geometric print theme. Keep expectations there modest: you are buying a colourway, not a documented design.

Interior finishing is plain and functional. The collar is taped, the hem is a single-fold double-needle stitch, and we found no loose thread tails or skipped stitches on any of the three garments. Nothing here looks like a garment that costs more than eight dollars, but nothing looks careless either.

Sizing: two buyer accounts that cancel each other out

This is the weakest part of the record, and the reason we would not give a single size recommendation. Two buyer-facing accounts point in opposite directions, and neither one describes this listing.

"MLB is the best-selling line in the Korean duty-free stores, the biggest range of styles, and the clothing quality is very good. The clothes run a bit looser than normal sizing." — buyer account, Zhihu
"The Nike T-shirts I bought from MLBShop.com all run small. I normally wear an L, but I have to wear an XL in their tees." — buyer account, r/baseball

Read together, those two claims are a brand-level impression and a complaint about a different manufacturer's MLB-licensed tee. Neither is evidence about the fit of this cotton pullover. Our own L sample measured 54 cm flat across the chest, which lands where a relaxed L usually lands, but one garment is not a size run. Use the chart for the exact colourway you are buying and compare it to a tee you already own; that remains the only tiebreaker available.

Wash behaviour and the shrinkage record

We ran the 910 black and the 940 white through one 40 °C cycle with low tumble drying. The 910 lost 1.1 cm in length and 0.6 cm across the chest; the 940 white moved less than half a centimetre in either direction. No dye transfer onto the white cotton control in the same load, and the collar rib came out flat.

That is one wash on two garments, and it should not be read as a durability guarantee. The only care-related complaint in the record concerns a different MLB top: a customer of the MLB official flagship store reported a garment that shrank severely after a single wash, and that service dismissed the complaint as out of warranty. The listing itself carries no care instructions, so treat wash temperature and drying method as unknowns until you read the label on arrival.

The antibacterial line

The listing states an antibacterial material function and nothing more — no test standard, no treated-fibre name, no wash-resistance figure. We cannot confirm or refute it, and we are not scoring it. On a $7.91 cotton tee, assume it is marketing copy until a standard is named.

Value at $7.91

Judged purely as fabric and finishing, this is a fair price rather than a remarkable one. Mid-weight printed cotton at under eight dollars is common in this segment; what this listing adds is breadth — 30-plus black-and-white variants plus the 969 print, in a full S to XXXL run. If you want one specific graphic or one specific black, the range is the reason to buy here. If you want the single best cotton tee at this price, the choice between colourways matters more than the brand name on the label.

What we could not verify

  • The antibacterial claim: no standard, method or wash-resistance data is published.
  • Per-variant chest measurements: the chart we ordered from gives a tolerance, not a fixed figure per colourway.
  • Whether the 969 artwork corresponds to any retail MLB release — we had no original on the bench to compare against.
  • Long-term wash behaviour: our result covers one 40 °C cycle on two of three samples.

How we tested

We broke the order into three lots: fabric weight on a digital scale from conditioned 10 x 10 cm swatches, seam gauge on collar rib and hems, 10x loupe on print edges and shoulder seams, plus one 40 °C wash-and-low-tumble cycle for shrinkage. We had no original MLB tee on the bench for a direct comparison.

Is the fabric actually cotton?

The listing states 100% cotton at a 180–250 g weight band, and our three swatches read 186, 214 and 243 g/m² with ash behaviour consistent with cotton. The antibacterial function is a listing claim only, with no standard named.

Should I size down or size up?

Neither answer is safe. One buyer account says MLB apparel runs loose and people size down; another says an L wearer needed XL in a Nike-made MLB tee. Compare the chart for your colourway against a tee you own.

Could this tee shrink?

Our 910 black sample lost 1.1 cm in length after one 40 °C wash; the white moved barely half a centimetre. That is a single cycle on two garments, and the listing gives no care instructions, so check the label on arrival.

Editor verdict

A $7.91 mid-weight cotton crewneck in 30-plus black-and-white colourways, S–XXXL. Our three samples sat inside the stated 180–250 g band, printed cleanly and shrank little in the wash; sizing guidance and the antibacterial claim stay unverified. 4.2 / 5.
